Marine Discovery Center Summer Camps

The Marine Discovery Center offers a variety of "hands-on and feet-wet" adventure camps for children 4 to 16 years old. Camp activities vary with age and type of camp but may include island explorations aboard their 40-passenger "floating classroom", lab investigations, arts and crafts, kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, SCUBA Diving, surfing, and much more! Summer camps at the Marine Discovery Center are designed for children to experience the water. All camps will include island exploration, science experiments, marine-related arts and crafts, fishing, shoreline studies in our salt marsh, and a photo show of your child's week at camp! Each camp will offer a graduate experience that makes the camp unique and gives children something to look forward to each year. The Marine Discovery Center offers the following camps:

LOGGERHEADS

Ages: 5-7  Non-Members $250

June 3-7 | June 17-21 | July 1-3
July 15-19 | July 29 - August 2

Our youngest campers will learn about the plants and animals of the Indian River Lagoon through a variety of "hands-on, feet-wet" activities. This camp will take a field trip to tour the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse.

LEATHERBACKS

Ages:  7-9   Non-Members $250

June 10-14 | June 24-28
July 8-12 | July 22-26 | August 5-9

Children in this camp will expand their knowledge of the plants and animals found in the Indian River Lagoon and surrounding coastal waters. This camp will take a field trip to tour the Marine Science Center.

MANGROVE MANIACS

Ages: 10-14   Non-Members $250

June 3-7 | June 17-21
June 24-28 |  July 1-3 | July 8-12
July 22-26 | July 29-August 2 | August 5-9

In this original MDC Camp, children will engage in a variety of activities, including kayaking, to develop their naturalist skills through interpretation of the Indian River Lagoon and coastal waters. This camp will include archery and a field trip (location TBD).

ECO ARTIST

Ages: 5-7   Non-Members $275

June 10-14 | June 24-28 | July 8-12

Ages: 8-10   Non-Members $275

July 1-3 | July 15-19 | July 29-August 2

This NEW camp will explore the creatures of the ocean and give participants a chance to create their own with direction from the Artist Workshop artist teachers. Since only 5% of the ocean has been explored, that leaves a lot to the imagination. Students will gain hands-on experience by examining our local sea creatures up close in their natural habitat and using that knowledge to create beautiful works of art in different elements.

AQUATIC ADVENTURES

Ages: 10-14   Non-Members $330

June 17-21 | June 24-28 | July 8-12
July 29- August 2 | August 5-9

Campers will explore the Indian River Lagoon and Florida’s coastal waters through various aquatic activities. Marine Discovery Center partners with other community organizations to introduce campers to surfing, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, and fishing.

LAGOONYS

Ages: 10-14 Non-Members $330

July 15-19

Participants will focus on snorkeling as a way to explore the Indian River Lagoon and Florida’s coastal waters. Students will snorkel in several different areas of the lagoon as well as several local springs to learn about the marine life in their natural habitats.

 

SCUBA

Ages: 10-16  Non-Members $350

June 10-14

 

This camp is designed for campers who are experienced snorkelers. The Marine Discovery Center partners with Sea Dogs Dive Shop to introduce campers to SCUBA diving. This camp will not result in SCUBA certification. *Additional health information is required for this camp.

Campers embrace the scientific process while building their outdoor adventure skills in this brand-new MDC Summer Camp! We will kayak to nearby islands and explore coastal and estuary ecology through a variety of observation techniques in the field, data collection workshops and more. This camp’s main headquarters will be at MDC’s off-site educational facility in Indian River Lagoon Preserve Park. Two of the five days will take place at MDC’s main campus.

New!  Single Day Summer Adventure Camp

Ages: 5-12 Non-Members $65

Dip your toes into our Summer Adventure Camps! This camp offering is for those that are just starting out in their MDC camp journey and want to experience the wonders of the Indian River Lagoon without committing to an entire week. Campers will board our pontoon boat and venture to Disappearing Island, where we will observe a variety of coastal species and explore mangrove forests. Once back at MDC Main Campus, campers will participate in activities, games, and crafts designed to connect our campers with nature.
