As 2020 comes to a close, a lot of us are counting our blessings. The biggest blessing may just be that this year is finally over. But on a positive note, hard times like these often remind us of what’s really important. There are plenty of things we used to take for granted, like gathering with our friends at local watering holes, hugging family members without having to think twice about it, going on vacation, and forgetting about our problems for a little while.
We know all of our family and friends who love New Smyrna Beach have a lot to be thankful for this year, so we wanted to hear from you.
We asked our network of locals and visitors, via our social media channels, what you miss most about this, and your responses gave us all the warm and fuzzy feelings inside.
Here is a list our team compiled with the top answers:
1. Enjoying the Outdoors
Walking down the white sandy beaches, seeing the lighthouse in the distance, watching the sunrise on the horizon, and taking a dip in the water. Finding sand dollars in the sand, spotting dolphins in the inlet, boating through Indian River Lagoon, watching the manatees swim by. Letting loose on the weekend to live music, eating dinner with the family outside, admiring all of the bright colored homes, smelling all of the sweet ocean smells.
2. Fresh to Table Favorites
Of course all of our favorite gathering spots made the list, like JB’s. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, we all love grabbing a beer and watching the sunset off the dock here. And who doesn’t love catching your own fish off the dock and having it prepared for you just the way you want it? JB’s spoils us with their “you catch ‘em, we cook ‘em” motto. And we love them for it. Someone send me some of Captain JB’s Jungle Juice spicy sauce, please!
And then Chases on the Beach made it too, a place we all know and miss, especially these days. Getting together and getting down at their weekend parties is something we could all use right now. We’re grateful for this classic beach bar, the largest in NSB right on the beach. We all can’t wait to be back here together again.
3. Unforgettable Memories, Epic Moments
But what really made us tear up were some of the milestone memories you shared with us. Proposals in the sand at sunset, wedding days on the beach with your intimate families, honeymoon getaways just the two of you. New Smyrna Beach is the perfect setting for such epic moments, and we’re so pleased you think so too.
There are of course the little memories that are unforgettable as well. Like waking up early with the kids, going out to watch the sunrise and watching the expression on their faces. Spending Christmas at the beach that one time and having the best time making new memories. Or walking on the beach with our parents who are no longer with us, watching them hold hands side by side, feeling the love.
New Smyrna Beach seems to bring out the best in all of us. Thank you for sharing everything you’re grateful for with us. We’re grateful for you.
